Life sciences firms tag top three spots in BU $30K

TeleEMG, a nascent life-sciences company focused on the diagnosis of pain, recently won the $30K Business Plan Competition at the Boston University Entrepreneurial Management Institute. The Boston-based company will receive a $7,500 cash prize and about $6,000 in in-kind services relating to legal and business expenses. Winning $4,000 was Natalus Inc. and receiving $1,000 for taking third was Boston Microfluidics. These two teams also each receive $6,000 in services. Colubris Networks Buys Wi-Fi Startup

Colubris Networks snapped up Kiwi Networks to boost its presence in the Wi-Fi and WiMAX space. The WLAN systems provider did not disclose the financial terms of the deal. Kiwi develops Wi-Fi and automated radio frequency planning and control products, which Colubris plans to integrate into its multiservice WLAN systems. Colubris acquires Calif. Wi-Fi Technology Developer

Colubris Networks Inc. yesterday announced the acquisition of Kiwi Networks Inc., a Campbell, Calif., developer of cellular Wi-Fi technologies. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Colubris said it plans to ship wireless network systems incorporating Kiwi’s technology by the end of this year. Colubris, which recently raised $15 million from private investors, said it will maintain Kiwi’s headquarters as a West Coast sales office.

WLAN vendors merge

Consolidation among wireless companies is underway, as Colubris Networks this week announced it would buy Kiwi Networks. Kiwi is in its very early stages, but apparently it was far enough along that Colubris liked what it saw.
